Bogdanovic rolled into the second round

The British player Alex Bogdanovic has successfully started this year’s challenger at the TC Gemax (prize fund of 106.500 euros). He defeated the German Dominik Meffert in the first round, with 6:4, 6:4.

"I’m not quite satisfied with my today’s performance. My serve was excellent, so I didn’t have too many problems in the match against Meffert. I have just returned from the Davis Cup in Argentina and I’m still tired. We had been playing outside, on the clay, and now I’m here, in the hall and on the fast surface, so I have not been thinking about the final rank on the Tournament. Now I’m focused on the next match, which I will be playing against Troicki (SER) or Kim (USA)" – said Bogdanovic, who had already played against the American, but has never met the Serbian player in an official match.

Alex was playing the Semi-Finals at Gemax three years ago. "It’s so nice to be here again, at Gemax, in Belgrade. I have a lot of friends here, many supporters. I feel comfortable and it’s a wonderful experience to play here, it's a real enjoyment."

Bogdanovic hasn’t been in London since November. For the season of 2008 he had prepared in Florida. After the USA he travelled to Australia, where he took a part in the Qualifying for the first Grand Slam in this season. Before he arrived in Serbia, he played for the Davis Cup team of Great Britain against Argentina. Next week Bogdanovic will be playing a challenger in France. That will be the first time he will be working with his new coach, Brad Gilbert.

"We are starting next week. Brad and I will be working together 20 weeks during the season. The British Tennis Association has a contract with Gilbert, they cover all the expenses, and I believe that the cooperation will be successful and that the work with Brad will bring me some good results. Last year I had a good start of the season – I climbed to the 108th place on the ATP list after my good performance at the Queen’s Tournament in London. Soon after the Wimbledon, I had a back injury which cost me the other part of the season and the fall on the ATP list. My this year’s goal is to enter the world’s top 100, but the most important thing is my health."

Serbia and Great Britain are potential rivals in the Davis Cup play-off for filling up the World Group. "If the Draw decides that we really should meet in September, I think that it is going to be a very difficult match. Serbia has an excellent team – Nole is playing unbelievably, Janko and Zimonjić continue with their good performance, Troicki is getting better and better...I think that no one from the British team would like to have Serbia for opponent" – said Bogdanovic.
